Elliot Williams, an integral part of Duke's 2009 roster, has decided to leave the team. Williams cited family reasons as the means of departure.
Coach K was quoted regarding the situation,
"We fully support him in his efforts to be closer to [his family] during this trying time," coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "He is a good young man with an opportunity to become an outstanding player. We wish him well as he determines his future. He will always be a part of our program and we will always be in his corner."
The departure is a huge blow to the Dukies, because they are now left with only two returning guards on the roster, Nolan Smith and John Scheyer. Williams insertion into the starting lineup was key to a moderate late season surge by the Blue Devils.
The slow decent continues for Duke. I fully expect a mid-season surgery for Coach K this year, similar to the 1995 excuse.
Unless, of course, he decides to take that Lakers job that may open up....
