Bye, Bye Matt Pilgrim and Kevin Galloway...

Sources are confirming that Matthew Pilgrim, former transfer from Hampton, and Kevin Galloway will not be returning to the Kentucky basketball program next season...

Roster attrition was expected following the recruiting haul this spring. The final decisions were being delayed by Jodie Meeks NBA Draft status. However, this morning news began to circulate that Meeks will, most likely, be returning to Kentucky for his senior season. This news was quickly followed by the news that Pilgrim and Galloway would be the two players shown the door.

Pilgrim, a transfer from Hampton, was a practice superstar and a very talented player, but rumors of an attitude problem may have derailed his chance to ever see the Rupp Arena floor. Joshua Harrellson appears to have received the last frontcourt spot and is a personality that is well suited for the locker room. The kid genuinely loves his University and I'll gladly eat crow for believing he would be dismissed in my earlier "Roster Attrition" post.

The last spot appeared to be down to DeAndre Liggins and Kevin Galloway. Many expected Galloway to get the nod because of his status as a senior on the roster(seniors were supposed to be safe), but things change quickly. Liggins and Galloway are both former top 40 recruits with a shaky feel for the game. Fundamentals are a struggling point for both point forwards, but Liggins youth(sophomore) and former relationship with Calipari(Memphis recruited Liggins) may have lead to the final decision.

While its sad to see two players leave the program, the news of Jodie Meeks, most likely, returning to Kentucky will help extinguish any fire that may arise from these decisions.

More to come later.

*On a side note...Keep our blogger and good friend Gary in your prayers, he had back surgery today. Hopefully, he'll be feeling well enough to start posting again within a few days.

Best Receiver to Ever Play the Game?

When thinking about the best wide receiver to ever grace a football field, we tend to think of Jerry Rice, Cris Carter, Randy Moss, etc....

However, one former WR has laid claim to that title and it probably isn't who you expected.

Yes, that's Andre Rison. The same man who's house was burnt to a crisp by that crazy bitch, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez. Apparently, Andre has decided to go chasing some waterfalls...the former coked out, mediocre receiver had this to say about his legacy...

“Best receiver to ever play the game. I can’t show my highlights because I don’t own NFL Films, but all my coaches in college, in high school, in junior college, they all told me I could be the best. But they must’ve lied because that title was already given to Jerry Rice. Just because you have stats doesn’t mean you’re the best. Can’t nobody tell me that Andre Reed isn’t better than Jerry Rice. I’m seeing cornerbacks on the 75th anniversary team that I used to demolish. But I’m coming out with my own hall of fame.”

Yes, you read that correctly. He can't show his highlights because he doesn't have access to NFL Films....not that youtube exists or anything.

Now, I do like the fact that Andre Rison is coming out with his own hall of fame to help represent other mediocre NFL players...

I mean don't we need a Hall of Fame with people like Rison, Desmand Howard, Mark Rypien and the Steve Beurelein's of the world?

Meeks to Return?

Following a day where many were reporting that Jodie Meeks had failed to receive a first round guarantee, news is now flowing that Jodie Meeks will be returning for his senior season to The University of Kentucky.

According to a report on The Dave and Scott Show, Scott Padgett's former get-up, sources are confirming that Jodie plan's to make his return back to school. Jodie's intentions have been clear from the beginning and he wanted to remain in the NBA draft if given a legitimate guarantee of first round dollars or early second round possibilities, but it appears he may fall short in that scenario.

If the report holds true, this is great news for Coach Calipari and The Wildcats of Kentucky, because they will return Jodie, along with his scoring and leadership, to an already potent, but young line-up. With the return of Meeks, the Cats will be sitting firmly in most pre-season top 5's and considered an early final four favorite.

Quite a turnaround from the mediocre label the program had been engulfed with over the past 4-5 years.

What the hell Kobe?

So I don't know who to blame this loss on the most, Kobe Bryant? Or the fact Orlando shot 62.5% from the field for the whole game?

I think it might be a combination of both. Orlando played out of their skulls tonight. They were hitting from everywhere on the court, led by Dwight Howard's 21 points and 14 boards. The Black Mamba actually played a great game outside of the 5 missed freethrows and that crucial turnover with 28 seconds left. Even with his great performance, he will be remembered for choking during the crucial part of the game.

This game tells us something though. Orlando shot the ball ridiculously tonight and Kobe Bryant did them a favor or three and they still could only win by 4 points. That tells me that Orlando has no shot at winning this series because they'll never shoot that great again and Kobe will never miss 5 freethrows in a game again. I'm still sticking with my pick of the Lakers in 6.
