Wow, could there have been any worse luck for the promoters of "The Open" this weekend! First, Phil is forced to miss due to the illness of his wife, which is understandable. However, no one in their right mind expected Tiger Woods to play so poorly the first two days of the tournament and miss the freaking cut, but even the best in the world are allowed a mulligan every now and again.
The true loser this weekend is, us, the sports fan. We're in, what could be considered, the most boring time of the year for major sports. Sure, baseball can be entertaining when the post season rolls around, but other than that you're forced to watch the World's Strongest Man and the occasional Jennie Finch pitching performance on ESPN2.
The golf majors provide us with some decent entertainment during these dreadful months and the British Open is one of the few weekends in the year that we are supposed to get to watch Tiger and Phil at their best, vying for major championships, but not this weekend. We get the pleasure of watching a 72 year old senior citizen, Tom Watson, competing for the championship. Sure, its a great story. I'm glad the old man can get a discount at McDonalds on his biscuits and gravy and still knock the hell out of the golfball, but its not Tiger and Phil.
So, good luck finding anything worth while to watch this weekend, folks, because it's going to be a toughie!
Ok, am I the only one who had no idea there was such thing as the Jewish Olympics? Apparenlty, Bruce Pearl is coaching the Jewish-USA Team at the Maccabiah Games and lead team USA to a 112-13 victory over Mexico.
Are there even enough Jews in Mexico to field a legitimate basketball team? I'm assuming Israel is dominating every single event at these Jewish Olympics...kinda like Mississippi dominates the Special Olympics....I kid!
What's up folks! Time for your weekly Saturday spam post!
