Vick Gets 4 Games...

ESPN has just reported that Michael Vick will receive a four game suspension by the NFL, and he has been reinstated immediately. There had been much speculation regarding the meeting between Vick and Goodell and when exactly it would take place, but it appears that Goodell made the right decision and acted quickly.

Now, the question remains, will someone actually give Mike a contract? What team is willing to take the risk and deal with the scrutiny from the animal rights activists, such as PETA?

Mr. Perfect....

Mark Buehrle made a little history today when he became one of only five pitchers to pitch a no-no and a perfect game during his career. Buehrle was bailed out by his center fielder Dwayne Wise, who made a miraculous catch with no outs in the ninth. Gabe Kapler came to the plate and was ready to play spoiler when he blasted a pitch that was headed over the centerfield fence, but Wise made a leaping catch, robbing Kapler of a home-run.

Buehrle is widely considered one of the most underrated pitchers in the game and he consistently performs with a smart pitching style, not the flash that is so coveted during today's game.

To give you an idea of just how rare of an accomplishment a perfect game is...Buehrle is just the 18th pitcher in major league history to throw a perfect game, and the first since Randy Johnson in 2004!

Congratulations to Mark Buehrle on an amazing performance!

NFL Draft expanding...

The NFL Draft is expanding from a two day event into a three day one. The significance of this is that the first round of the draft will now be shown in primetime on Thursday night on both ESPN and the NFL Channel. Goodell decided to make this move to make the draft "more accessible" to the fans and he might have a point.

As a huge NFL fan, I usually get up saturday morning and don't bother leaving my couch and television until 11:30 P.M. or 12:00 A.M. that night. Then getting up the next morning, and repeating the same process. I love the NFL draft almost as much as I love the regular season and playoffs. It just brings a new fresh exciting feeling that your team, whoever they may be, can turn it around with a great draft and offseason.

Then again, there are those drafts where your favorite team drafts Darrius Heyward-Bey instead of B.J. Raji or Michael Crabtree for that matter, who were both available. Then decide to draft the 70th ranked safety in the 2nd round and neither major broadcasts has any tapes on the guy.

Okay, sorry that I got off on a tangent there. In reality, I think this is a great move for the NFL and will only help draw more attention to the sport. Even though, we all know it is already the most popular professional sport these days.
