Michael Gilchrist Set to Announce...

Michael Gilchrist, the #1 recruit in the class of 2011, is set to announce his collegiate decision tomorrow on ESPNU's signing day special.  The announcement coincides with the announcement of Brandon Knight, a top player in the 2010 class.

Many believe that both will choose to announce their intentions to play for Coach Calipari and the University of Kentucky. A big day for the Big Blue Nation appears to be in the wings.

*Rumors are swirling that even more good news could come for the Cats tomorrow...stay tuned..*

Recruiting Breakdown....

>> Monday, April 12, 2010

I want to start by saying I apologize for the lack of recent material. I'm still in the process of moving into a new house, and had to attend a concert in Elon, NC of all places this weekend. Couple those previous things with an incredibly busy month at work, and it cuts into my ability to knock out 4-5 posts a day.

However, it was quite a weekend with Fat Phil winning the Masters. Will someone please tell Phil to get a haircut and a shirt that is bigger than the size smedium? Seriously, Phil, its obvious you haven't been P90xing. Your man boobs are comparable to a few of my beer guzzling friends, and we're tired of seeing them.

Now, onto the good stuff..

The Master's - Heading Into The Weekend

>> Saturday, April 10, 2010

Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Anthony Kim are atop the Masters leaderboard at -8 after two rounds. The two Brits shot 9 birdies all together on Friday, and the young American Kim joined them with 4 of his own.

Tiger Woods shot an impressive 68 on Friday for a two day total of -6, leaving him tied for third. Phil Mickelson is also in the hunt at -6 among the pack in third.

The conditions remain good at Augusta, with temperatures in the 70s and the fairways and greens both running fast.

See the Second Round Masters Leaderboard below for other scores.

Chipper on the DL---AGAIN.

>> Friday, April 9, 2010

If you're like me, you grew up watching the Atlanta Braves on TBS nearly every single day of the week. During that time, I saw that maturation of Chipper Jones from a star-studded rookie into a future hall of famer. However, over the last couple of seasons, Chipper has become as fragile as Shaun Livingston's knee.

Marquis Teague to Break Pitino's Heart??

Marquis Teague, the #1 point guard prospect in the 2011 class, has long been considered a Louisville lean. There have been several moments when the recruiting gurus expected Teague to pull the trigger and become a member of Pitino's Cardinals. However, in the past few days, a seismic shift may have occurred in his recruitment.

2010 MLB Season Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodger land seems to be a mess these days. They ended the 2009 regular season losing 7 of their last 11 games. They fell flat against the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS, and their owners are in the middle of a nasty divorce proceeding. What all that means is the Dodgers spent the off season losing more talent then they acquired. That means that they lose their designation as NL west favorites, and 2010 becomes a season full of questions.

2010 MLB Season Preview: Seattle Mariners

>> Saturday, April 3, 2010

The Seattle Mariners seem to have the right formula, defense, strong pitching, and run prevention. They lost 101 games in 2008, improved by 24 wins in 2009, and then went out an added an all star in fielder, and a bonified co ace to pair with Felix Hernandez. The expectations for the Mariners could not be higher, but they still have a few unanswered questions.

2010 MLB Season Preview: Texas Rangers

New ownership is on the horizon, but the command structure will remain in tact. The Rangers will be looking to build on a 2009 winning record. 2009 was the first time since 2004, and just the second time since 1999 that the club finished a season with a winning record. However trouble looms this team was in first place as late as July 10th last season, but wound up 10 games behind American League West Champion LA Angels. The club's success lies with their starting rotation, since they had a down year offensively last season.

2010 MLB Season Preview: Los Angeles Angels

The Angels have won three straight division titles, they probably have the deepest starting rotation in theAmerican League West, the have a fast break offense, and they still have Manager Mike Scioscia. However they took a beating over he off season, gone are four Angel mainstays, however they may remain the team to beat. However the AL West is wide open, as the other teams out west were busy adding pieces.

2010 MLB Season Preview: Pittsburgh Pirates

The goal each and every year for the past 17 years has been to finish the season with a .500 record. This year the Pirates will once again try to break the curse of Barry Bonds, they have not had a winning season since Barry left town 17 years ago. It seems in 2010 that the lineup could be good enough to break even, but their are big questions in the starting rotation, and we all have to wonder when management will decide someone makes too much money and trades them to a contender. That is all the Pirates are anymore, a developmental team for the rest of baseball. Don’t like it, step up Pirates management and prove me wrong.

Turnover Machine wins Player of the Year.

Evan Turner and his 27 turnovers a game have been named the AP player of the year for the 2010 college basketball season. Turner is a great player, and I don't have that many qualms with his winning the award, except he is a human turnover machine, and he doesn't have half the talent of John Wall.

2010 MLB Season Preview: Houston Astros

The Astros hit a second half skid that cost Manager Cecil Cooper his job in 2009. Now the Astros enter 2010 with ex Boston Red Sox Bench Coach Brad Mills at the helm. They won 74 games a year ago, but face big questions. They picked up Brandon Lyon in free agency to be their closer, but he is recovering from shoulder surgery. One has to wonder about Roy Oswalt, is there enough offense to support him? Also, is this Lance Berkman’s final year in Houston?

Will Aaron Harang perform in a contract year? Will Homer Bailey’s strong second half carry in 2010? How good is Aroldis Chapman? Of course the last question is, can the Reds shock the world and contend in the National League Central?

2010 MLB Season Preview: Milwaukee Brewers

Baseball fans now expect the Brewers to compete, to be a good team. However, after the star sluggers of Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder and budding ace Yovani Gallardo, they have a lot of questions.

2010 MLB Season Preview: Chicago Cubs

The biggest question for any Cubs season is, is this the year? While there is not a new management sign hanging on Wrigley Field, New ownership is finally in place and Tom Ricketts looks like he will be spending huge jack on stadium upgrades. First up the clubhouse. Next. Advertising. Pay no attention to that Toyota sign in left field! It will be the first advertisement the Wrigley Field has seen in left field above the bleacher seats.

These are all positive things, and the Cubs should be contenders in 2010, but a few questions remain. Will they finally vanquish the curse of the billy goat? Who knows?
