2010 MLB Season Preview: Chicago White Sox

We are what two weeks into spring training and White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has already created a twitter account to have fun as he puts it, but in doing so he has yet again drawn the ire of his boss White Sox General Manager Kenny Williams. Guillen might not have time to tweet as he has one of the deepest rotations in the American League Central, and a retooled offense. In a pretty weak division they may be able to make some noise.

This offense looks like a small ball kind of offense. With Juan Pierre and Alex Rios in the top five they have speed, and dare I say it power. On top of those two we have 3B Mark Teahen, 2B Gordon Beckham, and short stop Alexi Ramirez they sox are loaded with guys who could reach double digits in steals and homeruns. Of course we cannot forget the power of Paul Konerko, Carlos Quentin, and Andruw Jones. This is a team that is going to score a ton of runs, even if they don’t hit a ton of home runs.
After years of having Frank Thomas and Jim Thome as exclusive designated hitters, Guillen will change his approach to this position. He wants to use as a way to rotate and rest players. Jones will be the first choice there, and left handed hitting Mark Kotsay will be option number 2. However Guillen appears ready to give some of his players a rest from playing defense.

The real concern here is, can Rios rebound. The Sox hope so, since they are on the hook to him for 60 million dollars. It seems Rios did not adjust well to playing in Chicago in the middle of a pennant race, but the team needs him to produce. Hopefully after a full spring training on this new team, he will adjust better to playing in the spotlight that is Chicago.
