What 2 Watch Four: East Bracket-Week One.

>> Tuesday, March 16, 2010

The East Bracket is home to two number 1 seeds, Kentucky & West Virginia, and a former #1 team in the country, Texas. The selection committee made no bones with this bracket, and in my mind, it may be tougher than the treacherous Midwest.

1. KENTUCKY vs. 16. East Tennessee State

Murray Bartow and company can plan a quick trip back to Johnson City. They have zero chance in this game against the uber-talented Cats from Kentucky.

8. TEXAS vs. 9. Wake Forest

This is a gem of a game for a first round matchup. Texas, the former number one team in the country, versus a very talented Wake Forest team, lead by Al-Farouq Aminu. Both teams were riddled with high expectations and both crumbled down the stretch. However, talent doesn't disappear and both teams are capable of giving UK all they want in a second round match-up. Texas is just quite a bit more talented than the Demon Deacons, and will pull out the victory.

5. Temple vs. 12. CORNELL

Everyone knows all about the 5-12 matchup's and the upsets that usually happen. Well, this one is primed and ready for your choosing. Cornell took KU to the wire at Allen Fieldhouse earlier this season and they're no joke. Temple, while putting together a great resume this season, got demolished by that same team by 30+. Take the boys from the IVY league and thank me later.

4. WISCONSIN vs. 13. Wofford

You ever had a two friends who owned the same name and everyone referred to them as "Big-(Insert Name Here)" and "Litte-(Insert Name Here)?" Well, thats exact outlook of this matchup. The over-under on the game has a chance to be 90, and the excitement levels most likely won't be off the charts, but it will be close. Yet, just like if your two aforementioned friends got into a fight, always put the money on the bigger man. Woffer is a poor man's version of Wisconsin, plain and simple.

6. MARQUETTE vs. 11. Washington

Marquette plays as hard as anyone in the country and Buzz Williams crew can flat out stroke the three. Washington earned a tourney berth with their Pac-10 conference championship, but that holds about as much weight as a SWAC title this season. Washington does have some talent, though. Isiah Thomas and Pondexter can cause match-up problems for the Golden Eagles. However, I'll take the tournament tough Golden Eagles.

3. NEW MEXICO vs. 14. Montana

Montana has a game changer in Anthony Johnson, and I'm not sold on Steve Alford and the Lobos, but I can 't talk myself into picking the Grizzles for the upset. New Mexico will fend off a very game bunch from the mountains of Montana.

7. Clemson vs. 10. MIZZOU

Oliver Purnell vs. Mike Anderson. Get ready for a game that is filled with up and down action, and lots of turnovers. Neither team is off the charts in basketball IQ, but they will run and press you until you can barely stand. Both teams have the potential to give the Mountaineers trouble in the second round, if they have anything left in the tank. I'll take Mike Anderson over Oliver Purnell and his 0-5 tournament record.

2. WEST VIRGINIA vs. 15. Morgan State

Bob Huggins has an athletic bunch that just showed their grit while winning the Big East tournament, and they'll be entirely too much for Todd Bozeman and company to handle. The 'Neers win an easy one.

Up Next, South.
